Studio Dispatch: Edition 01
This year has been one of the most clarifying of my twelve years running Guten Co. While maintaining normal studio production, I took real time to audit my goals, operations, and the direction I want to take my work.
The biggest realization I had is that a creative studio lucky enough to have real longevity has to adapt and pivot. For years I've focused on the areas I love most: production, material knowledge, craftsmanship. But I left little time to zoom out and ask whether my career path still challenged me as an artist and laid the groundwork for another fruitful twelve years. After spending that time to thoughtfully reassess (highly recommend!) I have a more ambitious vision moving forward that includes taking on bolder challenges in material and scale.
The functional tableware you know Guten Co. for isn't going away but I will be working on more home fixtures, specialty glazes, fine art and large scale pieces alongside it. The goal is that whatever draws you to my work, whether it's a small functional cup or a large ceramic wall relief, there will always be a through line. It will all feel like it came from the same source. I will excitedly continue sharing this new work as it takes shape through a monthly "Studio Dispatch" just like this. Thanks for following along!
